Science Flight

Hurumanu - Things that Fly

FLIGHT

Aim: To learn about flight and aerodynamics.

  • In your groups of 3 you will make a paper plane and measure its distance and behaviour.
  • In groups of 3 you will make a water rocket and record its distance and behaviour.
Image result for flight forces

Definition:

4 forces of flight:

  1.   Gravity
  2.   Thrust
  3.   Drag
  4.   Lift

Paper Plane:

Material:

1. paper
2. ruler
3. paper clip
4. scissors

Steps:

1. first get your materials.
2. fold your paper in half.
3. unfold it.
4. fold the corners.
Findings:

Plane Type
Distance
Behaviour
Normal
2.0 metres

Ailerons
3.2 metres

Paper clip

5 metres

Conclusion:
we are learning about the flight of the paper plane and we are measuring how far the paper plane flew.

Water Rocket

2.
3.
4.
5.
6.

Steps:

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.

Findings:

( Record the distance and the flight behaviour of your rocket.)
