My Investigation on climate change

ACIDIFICATION

DEFINITION:

What is happening to the oceans?
The oceans are absorbing about the one third of the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. 

What does this do to shellfish?
It does things like coral growing a little bit a lot from the shellfish, and the inside has a little bit of it.

HOW DOES CLIMATE CHANGE CONTRIBUTE TO THE ACIDIFICATION OF OUR OCEANS?

Ocean acidification refers to decreasing levels of pH in the ocean, which makes the sea more acidic.

About The New Kahui

September 25 2019 

On Monday the 23 of the September Ts and Sh moved with us and we started talking about the new buildings and walked around the other classrooms and what they are about and what subject and room it is. We also went up stairs to see the teacher work there and it is not for students to go up there only for teachers. Our Kahui is called a Tieke and other classrooms Kahui has a different name. The names were Mohua, Riroriro and Tieke. 

When I walked into our new buildings I felt like....
When I walked into the new buildings I felt like I was really excited to see the new rooms in the new buildings and I also felt like it will be confusing to go to different rooms that we are suppose to be. I also felt that I might walked in to different classrooms while other students were working but luckily I didn't which is really great and I kinda feel that I almost remember where I am suppose to be. In each building they cost 27 million dollars which is really really expensive and some of us were shocked when the teacher told us that it cost 27 million dollars.

When I walked into our new building I thought....
When I walked into our new building I thought that the inside will be really cool and also the other rooms will be really cool as well. I also thought that the science lab will be awesome and it was actually, the chairs were new and there were pictures on the wall of all of the scientist and types of rocks that were on the wall as well. I also thought that the textures inside the new building were really cool as well like the colour of the walls and the colour of the tables and lots of other stuffs that were really awesome.

When I walked into are new buildings I saw.... 
When I walked into the new buildings I saw the rooms of the sitting area were really awesome and I saw the texture of the walls and the sealing were really cool like the lines at the top of the sealing The tv that lights up on the wall as well and the orange colour of the wall and white as well. I was amazed by the tv because they light up when the tv's are open it was really cool. I also saw the sitting area whit fake grass all over it and it was really awesome it's actually the best part of the new building like outside of it. There was these small cafeteria that i saw it was awesome as well with a kitchen at the side of it. 

Conclusion:
The New Kahui building were really really awesome and it was really cool inside and it was bigger that our other old classroom except there were no sliding doors because in our old classrooms there were sliding doors.

Hurumanu - Science Laboratory introduction

Aim: To learn about  the expected behaviour in a science laboratory.


Our R9 Class Treaty
  1.    Quiet voices

  • Test tube - Used for most experiments using liquids. They have a bung that goes in the top. 
  • Conical Flask - Used for experiments with liquid up to 150 ml. Th flask has a rubber bung for the top glass is heat proof.
  • Glass Stirring rod - A 20cm glass rode used to stir and mix any liquids together.
  • Test tube tongs - These are used to hold a hot test tube after an experiment.
  • Spatula - For holding very small amounts of chemical powders.
  • Funnel -
  • Measuring Cylinder - This is used to measure liquids for experiments. The liquids will be poured into a beaker or test tube once measured out.

Decompose

Aim: To learn about rate that different materials decompose.
Hypothesis: I think that Bananas is gonna rot quickly because a few days the banana will rot quickly.

Materials:

1. 4 Test tubes
2. Holder for the vials
3. Bread
4. Banana
5. Paper
6. White styrophone
7. Stand for the testube
8. Water

Steps:

1. Grab 4 test tubes
2. Put the 4 vials in the stand testube.
3. Put banana, bread, paper and white styrophone in the test tubes only a piece of it.
4. Grab a stand for the test tubes

Conclusion:
The things that I learnt is that how the food and the paper and cardboard change after a few weeks and what they look like from the past few weeks.

Water Cycle

AIM: TO LEARN ABOUT WATER ON EARTH.

Scientific words:

  • Evaporation. When water is heated by radiant energy it turns into water vapor.
  • Transpiration. Evaporation from plants.
  • Condensation. When water vapor cools, molecules join together and form clouds.
  • Precipitation. When clouds get heavy the waters falls as rain, sleet, hail, or snow.
  • Acidification: the action or process of making or becoming acidic.

Material:

  1.  Water
  2.  Blue food colouring 
  3.  Zip lock
  4.  Permanent pen.  

Steps:

  1.  Get a zip lock from the teacher. 
  2.  Draw about the water cycle on the zip lock.
  3.  Put water inside the zip lock after you have finish drawing on the zip lock.
  4.  Put blue food colouring in the zip lock so that the water will turn to blue. 
  5.  Tell the teacher that you have finish so that he could hang it up somewhere

Drama

Hello There Everyone!

We have been working on our puppets and videos about the puppets and we have to do a background of some healthy things like fruits vegetables and some other more things. I haven't got any partner yet to do a video and practising the talking for the video.

We were also talking about how vegetables and fruits are healthy, it's because they have a lot of vitamins like vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin D, vitamin E and vitamin K. There is a lot of of vitamins that are really good for you.

Design Teach

Hi there!
Today in Design Teach we are going to write the things that we have done in the past few weeks. In the first start of Design Teach we made a keychain at first we need to pick the colours that we like then we design it but we need to get a pencil to design it without taking the paper out. After you design it we have to show it to the teacher and start writing your design again using the tool that can make your design be put on the colour that you picked. After you have done that you take the two papers out, one in front and one at the back. Then you make another one that is the same size as the one that you have cut, you don't need to do your design again you just make another one. After that you show it to the teacher and he will drill a hole at the top of your work and put a chain in the hole and your done.

The next thing that we did is the pen and the pen was quite hard to make and took us 4 weeks to finish it. The start of the pen is that in the computer you go to laser works8 if you have it then you design your pen and after that you need to save it and send it to the teacher and tell the teacher that you have send it to him. Then you have to pick three colours you want and give the teacher the colour that you want only one to give the teacher so that he can put the design that you have put in and it has to be black and white as well. You stick the pen on the tree colours that you pick and the teacher will stick it for you and the others as well and you have to wait for it to dry and you can fix it. You have your pen.

The third one which is the last thing we are going to make was to just design anything that we like from the laser work8 if you have it. You tell the teacher that you have send it to him/she if you are done so that the teacher can laser cut it for you from your design and after that you have to make a holder from the thing that you made and put light in it as well and also you have to make it out of wood. after that put your pen on there and light it upand it will glow and you have it.

Today in CIP we did a DLO about the Terra cycle and the pens that we don't use anymore we have to put it in a container and give it to the teacher when you have a lot.  

Who is collecting?
the 7&8 students are collecting used pens. ,markers,highlighters, colouring markers,correction fluid tape,mechanical pens,whiteboard markers and all types of pens.


How are we going to spread our message to the community?
We will spread this project by doing some posters, include in notices, inform the parents by writing a letter or sending a message through emails.

Why are we doing this?
We are doing this because we would like to help other people and donate the things that we have got. We also learned how to recycle things like pens and also to be eco - friendly community. 

How many kgs do you predict we will collect?
All students are encourage to bring their empty pens in their class and to have at least 3kgs per week so it will be $3. I think we will get 100kg of stationery altogether.

What should we do with the donation money we receive from Terra cycle?
The donation that we will have will be going to Kids Can charity and buy some stationery items.

Solar Energy

Solar Energy

Aim: To learn about how solar energy is used.
Hypothesis. I think that black will attract the most heat because when you are in a dark room you can still get sweaty and can get a light as well.

Materials:
1. Heat Lamp.
2. Cups.
3. Tinfoil, white paper, black plastic.
4. thermometer
5. Water in the 3 cups  

Steps

  1. Grab 3 plastic cups.  
  2. Put foil and black plastic all over the cup except for the white cup because it is already white.
  3. Put water inside the 3 cups.
  4. Grab 1 lamp for the 3 cups. 
  5. Light up all the cups so that it can heat.
  6. Check the temperature every after 5 minutes using the thermometer.

Conclusion

Ella West

Hi everyone! Today Ella West came to our school to talk about her books. She is an Australian Author, she wrote lots and lots of books with her own ideas by searching up some places and getting ideas from that place.

Ella West came to our school because she wants to talk about her night vision book and her other books. She also talk about how to write a proper writing and her idea was to search up some places and going around so that she can get an idea from where she goes and what she search for.

Some of her books has 50,000 and 1,000 words and 40,000. She said that when she writes 1,000 words in her book it will take her hours and hours to be finish. She told us how writing is fun for her and she also told us what her books are and how she get an idea to make her story great.

Ella West talk about her Rain Fall as well and how she created it as well. Ella west likes to write and its really fun for her, she is also getting better at writing her stories she is almost getting better and she is really happy for it.

Drama

Hello guys! Today we started finishing our puppet the ones that are finish will do a video and the ones that haven't finish yet will sit on the stage and finish the puppet there i only did my one a girl and add some colour as well.

In drama i was just quite and talking to other people if they need anything they also sometimes ask me if i need any help or anything like that. I also clean some of the mess up on the floor when we were done finishing our puppets.

What I learnt in healthy food and junk food is that healthy food can give you lots of energy and also make you strong, healthy food is good for our health and in our body as well. Junk food is not that good for our health except for the ones that was made from the vegetable.

On my puppet I put some stickers around after i finish my drawing i stick it on the bag and put stickers around the outside. I didn't have time to take a picture because we were already packing up and there were lots of people as well and i couldn't get my Chromebook. 

Our puppet show plan was to put a song background and also sing it and dance the puppet around.

Greenhouse

The Greenhouse Effect experiment

Materials

  1. 1 plastic bottle
  2. 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda and Citric Acid
  3. 1 heat lamp
  4. 1 Thermometer
  5. 100 ml water
  6. 1 rubber bung
Steps
1. Collect 2 bottles 2 lamps and 2 Thermometers from the teacher.
2. Set up bottles and lamps beside a power point on a flat surface. 
3. Pour 100ml water and Baking Soda mixture into one of the bottles.
4. Start to record your findings taken from both thermometers. These must be every 5 minutes.
